New York University Basic Statistics I, Lead Instructor in New York, New York

The Department of Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities at New York University is seeking to hire an Instructor for an undergraduate introductory statistics course.

This course reviews core topics in statistics: collection and tabulation of data, properties of frequency distributions, histograms and frequency polygons, measures of central tendency, dispersion and correlation, tests of hypothesis (using the normal curve, the T distribution, the F distribution, and the chi-square distribution).

Lecture notes and assignments are available for this course although experienced instructors who have created their own teaching materials for an introductory statistics course are welcome to use their own.

Responsibilities

The instructor is expected to do the following: provide lectures twice a week; coordinate release of materials; monitor student progress; offer support through Brightspace forums, announcements, direct emails, and in office hours; and manage the work of course assistants. Preparing the course for fall delivery will require some fine tuning of the Brightspace LMS.

The course runs from January 24th to May 9th and meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:45. The course has 42 contact hours. Pay rate depends on level of experience.

Qualified Applicants will have an advanced degree in statistics or a related field (PhD preferred). Previous experience teaching introductory statistics to undergraduates is preferred. Previous experience teaching statistics more broadly is required.
