Swim Instructor

Dwight School Athletic Center – New York, NY

Position Overview

Dwight School Athletic Center, a division of the Dwight School located on the Upper East Side, is seeking qualified individuals to work under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager as a Swim Instructor/Lifeguard. These individuals must display outstanding customer service, and ensure safety, a fun dynamic environment, and be responsible for the health and safety of patrons using the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively scan the pool, recognize and provide rapid response in all emergency situations

  • Emphasize and maintain safety during all lessons

  • Attend monthly in-service training

  • Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate unsafe situations

  • Enforce pool policies and procedures

  • Administer first aid if necessary

  • Lock and secure pool at closing

  • Complete aquatic logs and report

  • Participate in aquatic quarterly drills

  • As an instructor: maintain all the required safety standards; give instruction based on level; provide consistent feedback, verbal and written.

    Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required

  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate

  • Current CPR/AED/Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Administration and First Aid Certifications

  • Knowledgeable of proper rescue techniques and proper use of equipment

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

    Hours and Compensation :

  • $20+/hour Rate (depending on certifications and experience)
