Initial salary placement for this Continuing Education Instructor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement (https://www.sdccd.edu/docs/HumanResources/employee%20relations/Collective%20Bargaining%20Agreements/Current%20CBA%20Handbooks/SDCCD%20Faculty%20CBA%20AGREEMENT_07122023.pdf) and it is non-negotiable.

The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT -Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Continuing Education Instructors earn tenure after 4 years. The Position

The San Diego Community College District is accepting applications for a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as a Clothing, Textile Arts and Technology Contract Tenure Track faculty member at the San Diego College of Continuing Education. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clothing and textile technology and instruction to provide high-quality education to our diverse student body. In addition to the core responsibilities, this role includes a focus on computer aided Patternmaking Technologies, along with other digital construction tools and software.

Applicants should understand that they may be assigned to any College of Continuing Education campus. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend hours, and/or off-campus responsibilities. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust workdays/hours based on the department’s needs and to the variety of modalities offered; on campus, HYFLEX , Hybrid and Fully Online. (This may be a split assignment between several campuses)

Major Responsibilities

Under the direction of a Dean, the College of Continuing Education faculty will teach courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog descriptions and course outlines. The assignment includes:

  • A focus on teaching engaging and informative instruction in clothing and textile digital technologies.

  • Providing hands-on training in various textile techniques, including sewing, pattern making, fabric selection, and sewn product construction.

  • Developing, updating, and reviewing course curriculum, materials, and assessments to meet industry standards and educational objectives.

  • Participating in program review and strategic planning.

  • Participating in activities to improve articulation between programs and credit colleges within the San Diego Community College District.

  • Researching, recommending, and coordinating purchase of instructional equipment and materials.

  • Serving as a mentor to other faculty members within the discipline.

  • Taking initiative in developing new methods of promoting instructional excellence and academic achievement.

  • Assisting in designing, providing, and supporting faculty and staff development activities.

  • Staying current with industry trends and technological advancements to continually enhance the curriculum.

  • Participating in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed.

  • Assisting in planning and organizing program activities.

  • Demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Serving on shared governance committees (e.g. hiring, matriculation, Academic Senate).

  • Participating as a peer evaluator.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants for this position must show evidence of one (1) of the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR,

  • An Associate degree and six (6) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR,

    NOTE : All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions, unless otherwise specified.

    Desired Qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in clothing and textile technology at the post-secondary level or equivalent industry experience.

  • One (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in Clothing and Textiles and related digital technologies.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard software and digital equipment used in clothing and textile industries, particular focus on 3D patternmaking technology such as CLO software.

  • Willingness to adapt to new teaching methods and technologies.

  • Experience with multiple modalities of instruction.

  • Experience using a Learning Management System such as Canvas.

  • Commitment to promoting sustainability and ethical practices in clothing and textile technology.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage course materials and assessments effectively.

    Conditions of Employment:

    SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT :
