The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) is seeking a communications manager to oversee communications and branding functions, and to create a strategic communication plan to support the school's mission. The communications manager is a pivotal position within the Office of the Dean and the ideal candidate will have communications expertise along with digital proficiency.

Position Summary:

Develops and manages a broad range of highly responsible communications support through writing and editing, counsel to faculty, staff and executive leadership and/or publications management and/or management of health communications/education programs.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Develops strategies for internal and external communications and social media campaigns.

  2. Responsible for marketing, advertising, branding, and management of graphic standards. This includes maintaining graphic and editorial style guides and quality control.

  3. Builds campaigns and creates initiatives to increase awareness and enhance the school's overall prestige.

  4. Writes and edits copy for printed and electronic publications. Works with leadership to craft messages to school community.

  5. Coordinates materials for school departments and programs ensuring compliance with standards and branding.

  6. Oversees school website including news stories, content development, and photography.

  7. Collaborates and serves as liaison for communications with the school’s two parent institutions and media, including crisis and emergency communications.

  8. Promotes student and faculty successes and school events.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

  • None

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or allied field.

Minimum Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
